RESIDENTS of Canberra’s Acton will again have a local supermarket, with 21 Capital Mart opening up in a circa 200 sqm space at 21-23 Marcus Clarke Street in the NewActon precinct.
It will soon be joined next door in a similarly-sized space by all-day restaurant, wine bar and bottle shop Rebel Rebel, headed up by acclaimed chef Sean McConnell.
Colliers Caleb Brinton negotiated the leases over the total 400 sqm space.
He said the site was previously a joint grocer and café that had closed down around 12 months ago, which meant locals couldn’t get “that emergency bottle of milk or loaf of bread without getting into their car”.
“While similar businesses to what was there previously are moving in, they will be separate and able to operate based on their own individual demand and capacity.”
The mixed-use NewActon precinct incorporates landscaped gardens, art, retail, residential and commercial spaces, located within Canberra’s CBD and adjacent to major arterial roads.
