DANNI Hunter, the Victorian chief of the Property Council of Australia, has resigned after she allegedly made racially insensitive remarks at an industry awards night in June.
The Property Council of Australia has accepted Hunter’s resignation, after previously confirming the then undisclosed senior staff member was taking responsibility for the incident.
“Danni has made the decision to tender her resignation due to the stress and publicity that has surrounded recent events,” read the statement from the Property Council.
“We thank Danni for her strong advocacy and contribution during her time with the organisation and wish her well for her future.”
Hunter confirmed the news.
“It will be no surprise to anyone that the events of recent weeks have been incredibly stressful and have greatly impacted me. As a result, I have made the difficult decision to resign my position as Victorian Executive Director of the Property Council.
“I’ll be taking some time off to consider my future career path and enjoy some overdue time as mum-on-duty,” she said.
Hunter previously apologised for the two comments made at the council’s June 23 gala dinner at Crown’s Palladium, before going on leave for weeks.
The staff member at the council who reported the comments has since left the company.
The Property Council said it has provided both staff and Hunter with support while carrying out a confidential process in line with its policies and procedures.
“The Property Council is an organisation that is committed to our values. These set out who we are as an organisation and the standard we expect of our people,” read the statement.
Hunter, who previously worked for Victorian Liberal Party leader Matthew Guy, when he was the planning minister, had disputes with the Victorian Government and Premier Daniels Andrews earlier this year when the proposed $800 million social housing tax fell apart.
Adina Cirson, the ACT executive director is now set to act as the interim Victorian executive director, before recruitment for a permanent replacement in the role commences.
