CONSTRUCTION on Australia’s largest on site solar project within a car park has started at Willows shopping centre in Townsville.
Owned by Dexus Wholesale Property Fund and managed by Dexus, the centre is undertaking a multi-million dollar investment to deliver a project that will see 4,800 solar photovoltaic panels installed, generating approximately 2,500 MWh per annum, equivalent to the usage of 370 households in Queensland.
The project aims to significantly reduce the centre’s use of grid-purchased electricity and associated carbon emissions.
More than 500 new shaded car spaces will be introduced, along with under-canopy lighting, for a total of over 1,700 shaded or undercover car parks.
Epho, a commercial solar power company that specialises in delivering large-scale solar energy solutions, is undertaking the works. Completion is expected by April 2020.
