PROPERTY industry stalwart and Charter Hall co-founder David Southon’s accomplishments has been recognised by Western Sydney University at its inaugural Alumni Awards.
Western Sydney University now has over 160,000 graduates and the Alumni Awards celebrate their outstanding accomplishments.
Upon receiving the award, Southon praised Western Sydney University for establishing the Bachelor of Business (Land Economy).
“I would like to thank Western Sydney University for having the foresight and innovation to establish the Bachelor of Business degree focussing on property in the 1970s.
“Since I graduated, it’s been exciting to be a part of Charter Hall growing to employ over 400 people nationally, with a market cap of just under $2 billion and management of approximately $16 billion across a range of property platforms,” Southon said.
“For me, I’m now looking ahead to moving onto new challenges in my career,” he added.
Other graduates who won Awards were Bachelor of Psychology graduate and Kokoda Track Foundation CEO Dr Genevieve Nelson, and Bachelor of Education graduate Betty Green, PhD candidate and former manager of the Liverpool Women’s Health Centre.
Western Sydney University Chancellor, Professor Peter Shergold AC, said the alumni are not just part of the University’s history, but crucial to its future.
“These Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of our graduates – extraordinary individuals who are part of a global community of Western Sydney University alumni.
“As we look to the future, our new identity reflects the pride we take in our role in the community, as well as our growing international reach. Our alumni are our ambassadors, and as such, are vital to the continued success of the University,” Professor Shergold said.
