The residential auctions market nationwide eased slightly last Saturday after a robust start to the year, according to the Home Price Guide by Australian Property Monitors.
According to APM, last Saturday in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, both the number of listings and sales fell. However, the results were higher when compared to 12 months ago.
Last Saturday in Sydney, 211 properties were listed for auction, a fall from 256 properties a week earlier – 12 months ago, 248 properties were auctioned.
A total of 103 properties were sold resulting in auction clearance rate of 54.3%.
The total value of properties sold was $71.6 million, higher than $56.2 million recorded a week earlier on the sale of 121 properties.
The higher value was a result of a number of expensive property sales, including a three bedroom house in Bondi Beach sold by McGrath Estate Agents for $3.69 million.
Meanwhile in Melbourne, there were 282 auction listings a big fall following an unprecedented surge a week earlier, where 746 properties were auctioned.
A total number of 133 properties were sold resulting in an auction clearance rate 60.1%.
Last Saturday in Melbourne, the total value of properties sold was $48.9 million, a fall from $121.3 million recorded a week earlier.
While Melbourne’s auction sales were lower on a week-on-week comparison, when it was compared to the same time 12 months, the Melbourne market was stronger.
In the same Saturday last year, the total value of properties sold in Melbourne was $17.8 million.
Melbourne also had a $2.98 million sale, a four bedroom house in Toorak was sold by Kay & Burton.
The smaller auction market in Adelaide also followed the trend.
Last Saturday, a total of 38 properties were listed for auction of which 19 were sold, resulting in auction clearance rate of 61.3%.
The total value of properties sold was $6.4 million.
