A consortium including the government of Canada plans to build a 168-unit student apartment building in downtown Montréal.
Also participating are the City of Montréal and L’UTILE, a nonprofit student-housing developer and manager. This is UTILE’s third project in Montréal.
The 13-storey project, dubbed Le Méridien, will be constructed at the corner of Ontario Street and Saint-Laurent Boulevard, close to McGill University. Amenities are slated to include social and study areas, a roof terrace and bike parking.
Le Méridien is expected to be in operation at the start of the 2026 academic year.
CMHC has provided $46.8m to help fund the project, and the City of Montréal contributed $6.3m. The Students’ Society of McGill University donated $1.5m, and the Fonds immobilier de solidarité FTQ provided a $9m loan to help buy the land.
