SYDNEY is building more homes than ever, according to the Department of Planning and Environment’s Housing Monitor.
Figures show a record of 38,759 homes were completed in Sydney, exceeding the previous annual record in 2016 by more than 4,600 homes.
Parramatta led the Greater Sydney LGAs with the highest number of completions in 2017 (4,218), followed by Sydney (3,607), Blacktown (2,939), Camden (2,841) and Bayside (2,302) closely followed this.
Minister for Planning and Housing, Anthony Roberts, said the government is committed to creating great communities and more liveable neighbourhoods to support Sydney’s growing population.
The latest Australian Bureau of Statistics figures showed housing approvals across the state continued to soar with more than 70,000 home approvals granted in 2017. This was the third consecutive calendar year that NSW recorded more than 70,000 building approvals.
“More homes were built than ever before in 2017. This is more than two and half times the 14,140 homes built in 2010 under the then Labor government.
“The NSW Housing Affordability Reforms package is allowing more and more residents to get into the market and realise their dream of owning their own home.” Roberts said.
