RESIDENTIAL vacancy rates in inner Sydney remained tight in December, according to the Real Estate Institute of New South Wales.
The December 2015 REINSW Vacancy Rate Survey recorded a steady rate of 1.8%, unchanged from November.
Vacancy rates in outer Sydney increased by 0.2% to 1.9%, while middle Sydney was up by 0.7% to 2.4% due in large part to lower response rates in this area caused by the holiday period.
Elsewhere, availability in the Hunter region continued its decline with a fall of 0.2% at 2.3%. Newcastle was down 0.3% at 1.8%.
In the Illawarra the overall vacancy rate fell 0.1% to 0.9% despite a rise of 0.4% in Wollongong to 1.5%.
In the regional areas New England rose 0.2% to 3.3%, Albury added 0.8% to 3.2% and the South Coast was up 0.3% to 1.7%. Northern Rivers dropped 0.6% at 0.9% and Coffs Harbour was down 0.8% at 1.7%.
