Sellers and buyers appear to be spent after reveling in February. The latest Home Price Guide from Australian Property Monitors showed the auction market continued to take a breather.
According to the latest Home Price Guide, while the auction market nationwide edged up slightly last Saturday after falling a week earlier, it was down when compared to the same time 12 months ago.
A month earlier, the auction market nationwide was reporting record listings and sales when compared to 12 months ago.
Last Saturday, the number of properties auctioned and sold increased slightly in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.
In Sydney, 244 properties was listed for auction of which 121 were sold with a total value of $98.4 million. Compared to a year ago, 416 properties were auction of which 171 were sold with a total value of $137.9 million.
Meanwhile in Melbourne, 406 properties were auctioned of which 198 were sold totalling $72.7 million. Compared to a year ago, 787 homes were auctioned of which 326 were sold with a total value of $137.7 million.
While, it would appear that auction listings and sales have dropped off as a result of Melbourne hosting the 2006 Commonwealth Games, a week earlier before the games, 275 homes were auctioned of which 132 were sold totalling $58.2 million.
In Adelaide, 49 homes were auctioned of which 20 were sold with a total value of $7.5 million. Compared to a year ago, 62 properties were on the market of which 32 were sold with a total value of $12.8 million.
