THE South Australian government has approved Walker Corporation’s Festival Plaza city square proposal in the Adelaide CBD.
The site will deliver 40,000sqm of a minimum 5 Green Star office space and a restaurant and entertainment precinct featuring cafés, eateries and luxury retail outlets across 5,000sqm, services by 1,500 new underground car spaces.
Walker Corporation chairman Lang Walker said the combination of premium, efficient office accommodation and adjoining amenities like bars, cafés and restaurants and entertainment is important to achieve an outcome that will ensure its popularity and use.
Festival Plaza is intended to work as a connection between key public facilities including the Adelaide Oval, railway station, casino, Festival Centre, convention centre and Riverside area.
Construction is expected to begin later this year and be completed in 2019.
The construction of the new city square will run in parallel to the $300 million redevelopment of the Adelaide Casino and $90 million upgrade of the Adelaide Festival Centre.
