THE total number of dwelling units commencements fell 13.2% in the September quarter following a rise of 2.1% in the June quarter, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
The quarter was affected by weaker new private sector house commencements which declined 4.3% following a fall of 4.5% in the June quarter.
New private sector other residential building also fell 13.5% following a rise of 16.8% in the June quarter.
In New South Wales, commencements decreased in the September quarter after five quarters of growth whilst in Queensland, dwelling starts has declined for the last two quarters.
South Australia fell this quarter after four quarters of growth and Western Australia has fallen for the last two quarters.
Tasmania recorded its third quarterly decline, ACT decline for the past two quarters.
In contrast, Northern Territory has risen for the last ten quarters and Victoria recorded its six quarterly increase.
