BROOKFIELD Multiplex has won the contract to deliver the 72-storey Prima Pearl apartment tower next door to Australand's Freshwater Place.
Brookfield Multiplex will construct the tower at 31-49 Queensbridge St.
Prima Pearl is a joint development by Schiavello and PDG, the tower will become Melbourne’s second-tallest building behind Grocon’s Eureka Tower 297 metres. The development was approved by the Minister for Planning Matthew Guy this year despite facing opposition from nearby residents at Australand’s Freshwater Place.
The $292 million Prima Pearl project is designed by Disegno Australia, a subsidiary of PDG. On completion it will comprise 667 apartments including a ground level 811 sqm commercial component.
Brookfield Multiplex Victorian managing director Graham Milford-Cottam said the appointment reflects the company’s track record in successfully delivering residential projects.
The company is currently constructing 700 apartments at Stage One of Upper West Side, 613 apartments at The Quays in Docklands, 350 apartments at Mainpoint in Southbank and a further 388 apartments at 33 Mackenzie St in Melbourne’s CBD.
Construction on Prima Pearl has commenced with completion expected in 2015.
Meanwhile last week Minister Guy approved another controversial skyscraper apartment project at Southbank by giving the greenlight to the $195 million, 71-storey The Falls project at 25 Queensbridge St.
