GLOBAL coworking giant WeWork has opened its first Melbourne office, in the iconic London Stores building.
Occupying six floors, the WeWork Bourke St hub will be home to 700+ new members — from early-stage startups to large corporations. The launch marks WeWork’s 4th location in Australia and its 170th location globally.
Designed by WeWork, the building features artwork by local artists, including FunSkull, Georgia Hill and Mik Shida, to bring the Melbourne immersive art scene into the space.
WeWork Europe and Australia managing director Eugen Miropolski said Melbourne was an obvious choice as its second city in Australia.
“We know Melbourne is one of the top locations our members in Australia and around the world are looking to us to open next, and WeWork Bourke Street, with its excellent transport connections and views over the city, is a perfect first location for us in the city,” he added.
Victorian Minister for Innovation and the Digital Economy Philip Dalidakis said the major investment reinforces Melbourne’s position as one of the leading coworking states in Australia – the state now boasts more than 150 coworking spaces with a total area of 58,880 sqm.
The second WeWork location in Melbourne, at 401 Collins St, will open in 2018.
