BRISBANE City Council has granted preliminary approval to OzCare for a $200 million vertical aged care facility across two high-rise towers of up to 23 storeys in the city fringe suburb of Newstead.
Stage one of the 43 Evelyn Street project will bring a four-storey podium with 16-storey tower comprising 120 residential care beds and 53 retirement beds, 2,892 sqm of office space to be used by OzCare, and a 335 sqm food and beverage outlet.
A 23-storey tower with 89 units will form stage two.
The project will also bring 1,050 sqm of public space as an extension of Waterfront Park, $500,000 of new stormwater infrastructure, 298 car parks and 23 bicycle storage spaces.
OzCare acquired the 6,180 sqm site from Mirvac at the beginning of 2018 and lodged plans for the aged facility at the end of the year. The site is just 500 metres away from Aveo’s 19-storey retirement community on Longland Street.
Mirvac had intended to build two residential towers on the property of 25 and 14 stories.
