UNITING has lodged a State Significant Development Application (SSDA) for its $233 million seniors independent living village in Kingscliff.
Uniting plans to redevelop the existing residential aged care home in Kingscliff, NSW into a seniors’ community with a mix of 199 retirement and independent living apartments and 120 residential aged care places, co-located with on-site support services and facilities.
A key feature of the development will be the senior’s wellness centre with an outdoor pool, gym, cinema, hairdresser and communal clubroom.
With medical and allied health consulting rooms also available on-site, providing critical healthcare services for the community.
The development will provide a diverse range of housing options and will also include communal areas surrounded by landscaped gardens.
“While the former Uniting Kingscliff residential aged care home has served its purpose for over 30 years, we recognise the need for a more contemporary village to meet the evolving needs of seniors who are living more independent lives for longer,” said Simon Furness, director of property and housing at Uniting.
Tweed’s local population is set to grow by 13,000 and 30,000 people by 2041, with a recent study by Tweed Shire Council underscoring the need for diverse housing options, particularly for downsizing elderly residents.
The study also identifies the need for medium density housing types including residential flat buildings in areas closer to neighbourhood centres.
“There has been an increased demand for quality homes and services on the Far North Coast and we are committed to creating a community that supports people to grow older with ease and dignity in the Tweed region they know and love,” added Furness.
Uniting projects that the project will support more than 260 jobs throughout the construction phase.
In December last year, Uniting was approved for a state significant $300 million seniors housing development in Charleston, delivering 120 residential aged care beds to a former TAFE campus.
