THE Director of Public Prosecutions has dropped charges against Mark Shepherd, of Benowa Waters, Queensland.
The charges were brought by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, alleging between October 13 2003 and November 28 2005, Shepherd provided a financial service on behalf of Lancer Group Pty Ltd, recommending clients invest in promissory notes issued by various Westpoint Mezzanine companies including York Street Mezzanine Pty Ltd, Ann Street Mezzanine Pty Ltd, and Mount Street Mezzanine Pty Ltd.
ASIC said the charges were discontinued on public interest grounds.
Meanwhile Barry Silver, of Arundel, director of Lancer Group, remains charged with aiding, abetting, counselling and procuring his company, Lancer Group, to provide a financial service.
