AMID concerns the production of Wagyu cattle in Japan will decline, Japan’s major meat wholesaler Starzen has acquired a Darling Downs feedlot for $59.4 million.
In a bid to secure the supply of premium beef products, Starzen will acquire Yorkrange, which owns Broad Water Downs, a cattle fattening farm.
Yorkrange will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Starzen, marking a pivotal step in the company’s overseas expansion strategy.
Broad Water Downs is cattle farm located in Tummaville in Queensland with capacity for 4920 cattles.
Starzen said the acquisition is part of its effort to mitigate concerns in Japan about a possible decline in domestic Wagyu production going forward.
Furthermore, Starzen said the integration of Broad Water Downs into Starzen’s operations will give the company greater control over production standards, ensuring that the beef is of the highest quality and meets stringent consumer demands.
