VICTORIAN Planning Minister Justin Madden has appointed Ian Robins to lead a new working group to finalise reforms to the Planning and Environment Act 1987.
Madden said Robins has 37 years experience in local government. The group consists of representatives from local government, the development industry and peak planning bodies.
Madden said while all parties agreed to the need for key reforms, there were divergent views on the specific areas of reform, particularly in the key areas of projects of state significance, fast track planning permits and the role of independent town planners.
“But while there is consensus on the need for reform, there is not a unified view on the best way forward with the reforms.
“For major reforms to be effective they need buy-in from all parties and this working group is tasked with finding an agreed way forward.
“I will then review the recommendations of the working group before putting forward the legislation to the Parliament,” he added.
The group is expected to make their recommendations before the end of the year.
