THE Barnett government is calling on the private sector to step right up and bid for seven new residential developments worth in excess of $1.5 billion.
The Western Australia government with the state development agency Landcorp released seven new developments across the state.
1. Western Edge – South Hedland;
2. Baynton West Lot 481 – Karratha;
3. Mayor Rise – Coogee;
4. South Beach – North Coogee;
5. former Blackmore Primary School – Girrawheen;
6. The Crest – Mosman Park;
7. And Craigie High School – Craigie
WA Regional Development and Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said the release is in response to the state’s economic growth, with 1,000 new people moving to WA each week.
“We recognise the need for further land and housing development to support the growing population, particularly in the Pilbara, and these seven projects will go some way towards addressing this need.
“In responding to the housing needs of the Pilbara, LandCorp is launching expressions of interests for a grouped housing site at Baynton West in Karratha, which will deliver much needed housing for the town, and the 226ha master planned community at Western Edge,” he added.
“With the potential to deliver more than 2,300 affordable dwellings and house a permanent population of 5,000, the Western Edge represents a major solution to Hedland’s current housing problems,” he continued.
Five of the developments are infill opportunities in the metropolitan area at Mosman Park, Coogee, North Coogee, Girrawheen and Craigie.
Grylls said these projects in sought-after areas are expected to deliver more varied housing choices with accelerated delivery to the Perth homebuyer market.
Further opportunities would be coming soon including a 9.4ha Activity Centre in Claremont; a variety of opportunities at Alkimos; and five mixed use lots at Cockburn Central.
Grylls said the government is also addressing the needs of major business with the provision of high quality industrial land, which will be released in the near future.
