THE world’s largest single station, the S Kidman landholding, would be carved up and sold separately to foreign investors.
The sale will exclude the contentious Anna Creek station, which was at the centre of the federal government’s decision to block the $350 million on the grounds of national security.
Managing director Greg Campbell said the Anna Creek station would be offered to an Australian buyers whilst the other properties will offered to the existing foreign bidders.
“The sale of Anna Creek would occur contemporaneously with the sale of the remainder of the business.
“Carving out Anna Creek, while undesirable in an operation sense, was required to address the national security and portfolio land area concerns of the Commonwealth Government,” he said.
Last month Treasurer Scott Morrison blocked the sale on the grounds of national security.
Treasurer Scott Morrison said around 50% of the Anna Creek pastoral lease is located in the Woomera Prohibited Area, the location of Australia’s top-secret missile base.
It has been reported China’s Genius Link Group and Shanghai Pengxin were vying for the $350 million Kidman portfolio.
The Kidman portfolio represents approximately 1.3% of Australia’s total land area, and 2.5% of Australia’s agricultural land. It comprises 10 cattle stations stretching across South Australia, Western Australia, the Northern Territory and Queensland covering 101,411 sq km and managing a long-term average herd of 185,000 cattle.
