MARRIOTT’s W Hotels Worldwide will open a 294-room hotel within Cbus Property’s $1.25 billion “Pantscaper” development in the core of Melbourne’s CBD.
The Collins Street twin-tower project, formally known as Collins Arch, will be the second W Hotel site in Australia. W Brisbane is set to open in early 2018, with the Melbourne offering expected to open in 2020.
The hotel will be acquired by Japan’s Daisho in a $220 million deal.
It will include 40 suites and an Extreme Wow Suite, a bar and restaurant, workout facility and indoor swimming pool, and is to be designed by SHoP architects from New York, Woods Bagot and Hachem.
“We’re extremely excited to be working with Daisho Development Melbourne Pty Ltd. and Cbus Property to bring a second W Hotel to Australia,” said Rajeev Menon, chief operating officer, Asia Pacific (excluding Greater China) at Marriott International.
“Melbourne is one of Australia’s most beloved cultural hubs with a strong global tourism industry, making it the perfect setting for this innovative lifestyle brand.”
The mixed-use Collins Arch development will also comprise 205 apartments and around 49,000sqm of office space.
