MELBOURNE property developer Tim Gurner is the highest-ranked real estate identity in this year’s Australian Financial Review Young Rich List, rising from fifth to third place after taking his wealth from $465 million in 2017 to $631 million.
Gurner, aged 36, infamously said young Australians would struggle buy a home when they were “spending $40 a day on smashed avocadoes and coffees and not working”.

Former Essendon footballer and Channel 7 commentator Andrew Welsh has converted his fortunes on the field to the property development game, coming in at 23rd with a worth of $121 million as his Welsh Group undertakes the 5,000 home Thornhill Park project in Melbourne’s west.
Also representing the real estate industry are Marwan Rahme of Kanebridge, in 35th with $70 million; Dean Willemsen of DNW Group in 37th with $65 million, and Real Institute Australia co-founder Ross Robinson in 64th with $39 million.
