THE last auction week of the year saw a 4.1% drop in activity and clearance rates in the mid 50s.
According to the latest figures from Domain, nationally there were 1,917 auctions listed, down from 2,263 the week before with 1,414 auctions reported down from 2,028.
At 57.5%, the national clearance rate was down from last week’s revised rate of 55.5%, with 813 properties selling at auction down from 1,126 in the week prior, with 323 properties withdrawn, down from 354.
Compared to the same week last year, the clearance rate was up from 55.4%, where 1,485 properties were listed, 1,381 auctions were reported and 751 were sold.
The total value sold this week was at $665.8 million, with houses bringing in an auction median of $1,120,000 and units at $720,000.
This was down from last week’s $1,013.1 million, with the auction median for houses at $1,218,000 and units at $8289,000.
Compared to the same week last year, the total value sold was up from $595.1 million, with the house auction median at $1,050,000 and the unit auction median at $689,000.
According to CoreLogic’s results, capital city auction results were down 4.1% with 2,918 homes auctioned but up 25.8% on this time last year.
In Sydney the clearance rate was down from 57.1% to 57%, with 472 reported auctions, 158 withdrawals and 269 properties selling.
Sydney’s total value sold at auction down to $271.2 million this week, with an auction median of $1,390,000 for houses and $905,000 for units.
In Melbourne the clearance rate was up from 55% to 59.2%, with 786 reported auctions, 130 withdrawals and 465 properties selling.
The total value sold in Melbourne was $334.4 million, or an auction median of $981,000 for houses and units at $643,750.
While in Adelaide, the clearance rate was at 62%, with 93 auctions reported, 11 withdrawn and 58 properties sold, for $33,265,000 in total sales and a median of $770,000.
In Brisbane the clearance rate came in at just 30%, with 69 auctions reported, 16 withdrawals and 21 sold, for $20,568,000 in total sales and a median of $1,190,000.
Finally, Canberra’s clearance rate was at 48%, with 50 auctions reported, 8 withdrawn and 24 properties sold for a total value at $21,733,000 and a median of $900,500.
