LEND Lease is expanding the eatery precinct at Barangaroo South with the signing of food and wine emporium, Mercato e Cucina.
Founded by Vanessa Martin of Il Piave fame, Mercato e Cucina (‘market and kitchen’) will open in early 2016 and follows the successful launch of its first provedore in Gladesville last year.
The store will occupy a 700 sqm site in the same precinct as Gelato Messina and Bourke Street Bakery. Famous chef Matt Moran will also open a three-level restaurant at the precinct.
Once completed, more than 23,000 office workers will occupy the International Towers Sydney and approximately 1,500 residents.
Lend Lease’s head of retail Gary Horwitz said the group has been busy sourcing the best local and international retailers to offer a distinctive retail offer to Sydney.
“We are delighted to welcome the Mercato e Cucina team and their genuine Italian hospitality to Barangaroo where we know they will create a superb experience within their provedore,” he added.
Martin said Mercato e Cucina brings the best of Italian style food and produce under the one roof, while still holding onto the simplicity of Italy’s culinary traditions.
“We are really excited about introducing our store and unique concept to the CBD – a place where visitors will be able to escape to Italy seven days a week,” she concluded.
