LENDLEASE has been awarded the contract for Curtin University’s $110 million new home of its School of Design and Built Environment, marking the first development within the Curtin’s new innovation precinct, Exchange.
The new building will include tech-driven collaborative learning spaces, open-plan workspaces and a ground floor with courtyard, exhibition and retail space. Integrated spaces totalling 2,500 sqm have been allocated to industry and will be available for lease by complementary commercial tenants.
Stage one of Exchange has a development value of $500 million, and was approved late in 2018 by the Joint Development Assessment Panel. It neighbours the university’s Curtin Medical School and sport and recreation hub.
Curtin University vice-chancellor Deborah Terry said the new facility, located in the heart of Exchange, represented an exciting new paradigm for learning, teaching and industry as the first concentrated stage of development to be delivered in response to the Greater Curtin Master Plan.
Professor Terry said Curtin was also in the final stages of negotiation for the delivery and operation of the remaining development within stage one of the precinct.
The new School of Design and Built Environment is expected to be complete within two years.
