PLUS Architecture and Macquarie York have been given the go ahead on their sculptural 13-storey tower in Palm Beach, securing a rare 50% height bonus for its design excellence.
Cirrus is a 42.4-metre tower on a 488sqm site with ten full-floor three-bedroom residences and a crowning two-level four-bedroom penthouse with more than double the typical beachfront frontage at 15 metres.
“We approached this project as an opportunity to demonstrate how design excellence can transform a site into an architectural landmark,” said Danny Juric, director at Plus Architecture.
“Our collaborative process with Council, often involving real-time design refinements sketched during meetings, helped us create a building that not only maximises resident amenity but makes a genuine contribution to Palm Beach’s urban fabric.”
The design-focused development will feature a curved facade with fluted concrete detailing inspired shell patterns.
The two-part composition includes a grounded podium with stone paving topped by the tower element with concrete and expansive glazing and a vertical green spine throughout the building.
“The building’s form is deliberately shaped to maximise setbacks and optimise views, while its street-level interface creates a welcoming presence that strengthens Palm Beach’s emerging village heart,” added Juric.
Residents will have access to an elevated recreation deck on level one featuring an infinity-edge pool, with landscaping down the podium that establish direct pedestrian access to the beach.
“Having experienced Plus Architecture’s design excellence capabilities on Nina Chevron Island and Sunset Residence in Surfers Paradise, we knew they could help us achieve something truly exceptional here. The result speaks for itself – Cirrus will be an iconic addition to Palm Beach’s skyline and sets new standards for sophisticated beachfront living on the Gold Coast,” said Roy Skaf, managing director at Macquarie York.
“I want to acknowledge the exceptional engagement from Gold Coast City Council Officers throughout the assessment process, and thank both the Planning & Regulation Committee and Full Council for their overwhelming support of this landmark development. Their vision and support have been instrumental in bringing Cirrus to life.”
This will build on Plus Architecture’s three completed projects in Palm Beach, with five more approved and in design development plus several more planned.
Construction on Cirrus is anticipated to begin in Q2 2025, with sales set to begin when the when the structure is substantially completed.
