RESTAURATEUR Groove Train, CJ’s Cafe and Yum Cha have joined the string of retailers flocking to the High St retail precinct at the base of Hilton Surfers Paradise.
The restaurants have been joined by jewellery store Paragon and accessories store Mimco.
And more retailers are also expected to open by the end of 2011, with Brookfield Multiplex confirming leases had been secured for about 70% of the High Street’s total 4,500 sqm of retail space.
The new operators join well-known brands including Versace Collection, French Connection and Witchery, which opened in the first stage of The High Street.
Groove Train restaurant director Tony Dimovski said the precinct was the perfect fit for the restaurant.
“Our research has shown much of the Gold Coast community didn’t have a reason to come into Surfers, and we believe the new Hilton Surfers Paradise, and The High Street, will change that, along with attracting visitors from around Australia and the world.
“The restaurant can seat up to 250 diners and with a menu covering over 120 dishes, we’re appealing to everyone from teenagers straight from the beach to international visitors seeking high-quality food that is synonymous with Groove Train,” he added.
The restaurant will be Groove Train’s second offering on the Gold Coast and the 14th throughout Australia.
Brookfield Multiplex retail asset manager Linda Durant said the new retailers complemented the dynamic mix of offerings already open within the precinct.
“With the completion of the Hilton Surfers Paradise residences and opening of the hotel the strip is bustling with activity. The development is part of Surfers Paradise’s regeneration and the community is really embracing it,” she added.
Among the prime offerings still available was a 275 sqm restaurant space. Durant said Brookfield Multiplex was interested in ‘contemporary cuisine’ for the space to balance the other dining establishments currently in negotiation.
“We’re also actively sourcing men’s and women’s fashion lines and accessories in the remaining street level floor space. We’re expecting to announce confirmation of more prominent retailers very shortly,” she concluded.
