THE Western Australian government has amended the Peel region planning scheme, rezoning 378 hectares of rural land within the Shire of Murray from rural to industrial use.
A second scheme amendment to rezone a further 201ha of land has also been approved, expanding the existing Peel Business Park in Nambeelup to a total of 870ha.
Planning Minister Rita Saffioti said the changes will provide a pipeline of serviced industrial land and ensure the region continues to adapt to new economic opportunities.
The rezoned areas sit north-east of Mandurah, on either side of the Murrayfield airpark, and are easily accessible from both the Kwinana Freeway and South West Highway, with links to local port facilities and future major road corridors.
“These amendments deliver on a long-term vision to expand the Peel Business Park and will be further progressed through the development of a local planning scheme and structure plan by the Shire of Murray.
“The Peel region is currently home to more than 100,000 residents with the population forecast to grow substantially by 2050, reinforcing the importance of planning for growth and ensuring the provision of local jobs for local residents.
“For more than 20 years, this area has been earmarked as a transformational project and I am pleased to support these amendments. The amendments set a clear planning framework and could stimulate business and industrial development within the Shire of Murray for many years to come.” Saffioti said.
