GARY Weiss has been unanimously elected as the new chair of Cromwell following ARA’s successful board spill.
Weiss will succeed Jane Tongs, who was briefly appointed chair in December after Leon Blitz and CEO Paul Weightman stepped down.
Tongs will also step down from the Cromwell board.
At the same time, Ooi Eng Peng has been elected as deputy chair and senior independent director.
“The board renewal process has proceeded quickly and the key remaining item on the to-do list, the appointment of a permanent CEO, is in the hands of the Cromwell board,” Tongs said.
“I would like to thank all Cromwell directors, past and present, for their support during this time,” she added.
“On behalf of all Cromwell securityholders, I would like to thank Tongs for her contribution to the Cromwell board since 2014 and welcome Mr Ooi as Deputy Chair and senior independent director.” Weiss said.
Weiss’ current roles include chair of Estia Health and Ardent Leisure Group, executive director of Ariadne Australia and non-executive director of Thorney Opportunities. He is also a Commissioner of the Australian Rugby League Commission.
Ooi has served as a non-executive director of ESR Funds Management Limited, the manager of SGX-listed ESR-REIT, since 2012 and the chair since 2017. He spent 30 years in a variety of senior roles with Lendlease and has more than 35 years of real estate experience.
