VICTORIAN Premier Daniel Andrews has unveiled a new cabinet to take to the upcoming state election, including new ministers for the planning and housing portfolios.
Lizzie Blandthorn will become the Minister for Planning taking over from retiring MP Ricard Wynne
Danny Pearson becomes the Minister for Housing alongside his responsibilities as Assistant Treasurer. They are among five MPs elevated to the ministry.
At the same time, Jacinta Allan will become Deputy Premier.
The appointments were welcomed by the property development industry.
“We have strong relationships with both and will immediately engage to raise with them the most important issues affecting the planning and housing portfolios that are costing our members time and money, and that must be urgently addressed,” UDIA Victoria said.
“We will be seeking the urgent reinstatement of the planning reforms that were scrapped earlier this year. The government has accepted that there is enormous inefficiency in the state’s planning system that is costing billions of dollars in economic activity, at a time we need that activity the most. We commit to working closely with Minister Blandthorn to get this reform moving again.
“After nearly eight years in the role, UDIA Victoria again acknowledges the work of outgoing minister, Richard Wynne. We thank him for his service.”
