AS part of the CPB Contractors consortium, Billard Leece Partnership (BLP) has been appointed to lead the architectural design for the new Bundaberg Hospital, in collaboration with Cox Architecture.
The CPB Contractors consortium was selected as the bidder for the first stage of the $1.2 billion Queensland government project and marks BLP’s first major project in the first Sunshine state in 15 years.
“It is a privilege to contribute to the delivery of the new Bundaberg Hospital, a project that will significantly enhance the Queensland region’s health infrastructure,” said Tara Veldman, managing director at BLP.
The hospital will comprise a six-storey healthcare facility providing services including acute, medical, surgical, and mental health care, as well as emergency and clinical support services, supplemented by essential infrastructure.
The project is a part of the state government’s $9.78 billion Queensland Health and Hospitals Plan.
“Our proven collaborative history with CPB Contractors is set to continue with this significant project,” added Veldman.
“Our shared vision aims to establish a modern, future-proofed health facility that caters to the needs of the Bundaberg community and the wider Wide Bay-Burnett region.”
BLP has a focus on the health, science & technology, learning spaces, communities, and workplace sectors and has in recent years delivered projects valued up to $2 billion.
BLP also designed the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne; Campbelltown Hospital, Sydney; Perth Children’s Hospital; Hong Kong Children’s Hospital; Doherty Institute (with Grimshaw); Orygen Youth Health, Parkville; University of Melbourne Werribee U-Vet Hospital; the Susan Wakil Health Building at the University of Sydney (with DS+R), NSW.
With the global experts in social infrastructure design currently delivering a $3.4 billion pipeline of design including the Sydney Children’s Hospital Stage 1 & Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre, The Children’s Hospital Westmead Stage 2 Redevelopment, and the New Footscray Hospital (with COX).
The design for the new Bundaberg Hospital is expected to be completed in early 2024, with main construction to follow.
