A FORMER tobacco farm in far north Queensland that now supplies Coles and Woolworths with mangoes has hit the market.
The 71.25-hectare high-income mango and citrus orchard at 85 Schincariol Road in Dimbulah, in the Atherton Tablelands, is for sale through Colliers’ Nicholas Warmington in conjunction with Prophurst’s Bram Pollock on behalf of family-owned BLS Farming.
The property, which began life as a tobacco farm, has been owned by the same family for 70 years and now offers 8,913 mango and lemon trees, supported by irrigation totalling 220 megalitres from the Eureka Creek. Structural improvements include two homesteads, workshops, machinery sheds, cool room storage, and an expansive sorting and packing shed.
“The property is strategically located in a region highly esteemed for horticulture production and high producing yields, and we are expecting a lot of buyer interest,” Warmington said.
About 90% of the mangoes harvested from the property are sold to Coles and Woolworths through market agents, with the Pinnacle brand a regular with Coles for a decade and with Woolworths for the past 2 years.
About 72 hectares is developed for 7,080 Mango trees and 1,833 Lemon trees. Current planting varieties include about 3,199 Kensington Pride trees, 3,467 Keitt trees, 414 Keo Savoy trees and 1,833 Eureka Lemon trees.
The remaining 10% of mangoes are sold to high-end fruit vendors with a portion starting to be exported into high-end markets such as Dubai and Singapore.
“This property offers an outstanding horticultural opportunity with a high performing orchard and the chance to grow the export of these popular Australian products to high-end international markets,” Warmington said.
