THE WA government is delivering $3.63 million in funding to support the delivery of 363 new apartments across suburban Perth.
The Cook government’s $80 million Infrastructure Development Fund has announced eight new developments which will receive funding as part of the investment.
“The Cook Government is committed to supporting projects that help accelerate and broaden the availability of accommodation supply in Western Australia,” said John Carey, minister for planning and lands.
“The Infrastructure Development Fund covers costs up to $10,000 for each residential apartment, to help alleviate some of the upfront constraints in connecting water, wastewater and electricity services.”
The projects include a mixed-use development in Cockburn Central, which will deliver 109 apartments as well as a hotel, a lodging house and commercial floorspace.
The development will receive up to $1.09 million – with a maximum of $10,000 allocated for each residential apartment to connect to essential services.
With other new developments including projects at Midland, Shenton Park, Fremantle and Sorrento.
Since being established, the Infrastructure Development Fund has allocated $37 million to support 57 residential development projects with a potential 3,700 apartment yield.
“Construction is underway on projects that will deliver 564 of those new apartments – and another nine projects are expected to commence construction shortly,” added Carey.
“This Government continues to work with service providers, local governments and industry to unlock and create a future pipeline of medium-to-high density infill developments.”
With the WA government announcing it will allocate more than $840 million to social and affordable housing and homelessness initiatives in its 2024/25 Budget.
Having also announced up to $50 million in grants for registered community housing providers in Western Australia under a process aimed at boosting regional social and community housing supply.
