Korean grocery chain Galleria Supermarket is looking for new locations as it eyes an expansion across Ontario, Green Street News can reveal.
CBRE has been handed the assignment to secure leases for at least five new locations. Galleria is said to be on the lookout for sites between 5,000 sq ft and 15,000 sq ft.
The supermarket is considering sites in Newmarket, Toronto’s Etobicoke region, Markham, Mississauga and Waterloo within the following nodes:
- Etobicoke: Bloor Street and Islington Avenue; and Bloor Street and Kipling Avenue
- Markham: Highway 7 and Woodbine Avenue; Highway 7 and Warden Avenue; Highway 7 and Kennedy Road
- Mississauga: Hurontario Street and Burnhamthorpe Rd; and Dundas Street and Dixie Road
- Newmarket: Yonge Street and Davis Drive; Yonge Street and Mulock Drive
- Waterloo: No specific location
Currently, Galleria has locations throughout Toronto and in Oakville, Ont.
Galleria’s move is part of a broader trend that’s seeing Canadian grocers expanding in 2025. Loblaw, Canada’s largest food retailer, is expanding and plans to open 80 new stores this year. Empire plans to open 65 FreshCo supermarkets in Western Canada, and the supermarket Metro plans to open 12 new stores in Ontario and Québec.
“Canadian grocers are looking to grow in 2025, particularly in the discount space to reach more price-conscious households,” JLL said in a recent grocery report.
“However, they’re keeping their expectations in check due to consumer spending moderation, changes to the Competition Act and potential U.S. tariffs.”
