Melbourne’s Docklands precinct has claimed another scalp from the Melbourne CBD office market, with The Age firming up Melbourne’s Docklands precinct for its new $70 million headquarters.
Melbourne property market sources told PropertyReview, The Age has been in the market for a new home for the past decade.
The Age is expected to leave its current home at the 250 Spencer Street for the VicUrban-owned site at the Docklands.
According to market sources, the new The Age headquarters will be located on the vacant Site 7, on the corner of Spencer Street and Collins Street with frontages to Collins Street.
The new The Age headquarters will have approximately 15,000 sqm of space.
PropertyReview has learnt that $6 million engineering works have already began on the chosen site at the Docklands, which will link Site 6 and 7.
The new headquarters is also directly opposite the newly completed Southern Cross Station.
The latest move by The Age follows a string of major relocation from the Melbourne CBD to Docklands, including Ericsson’s move from General Property Trust’s Melbourne Central and ANZ Bank from various sites in the CBD.
“Developers at the Docklands are working day and night to secure these major tenants,” the source told PropertyReview.
The Age currently has its $220 million state-of-the-art printing facility near Tullamarine Airport.
