DEXUS has secured a long-term lease with renowned restaurateur Godfrey Mantle over the historic Naldham House on Brisbane’s Mary Street, which will form part of its proposed $1.4 billion Waterfront Precinct.
Mantle Group Hospitality is planning to transform the 193 Mary Street site into a new entertainment venue across four levels, with high-quality dining, bar and function facilities.
Designed by Greenlight, the new fit-out will seek to reflect the heritage values and maritime qualities of the building, removing all the non-heritage elements installed since the 1960s.
Built between 1864 and 1889, heritage-listed Naldham House operated as the members-only Polo Club for 25 years. Dexus and Dexus Wholesale Property Fund acquired the heritage-listed building for $15.4 million in October of 2015 from Singaporean property player Koh Wee Meng, who had owned the site for only a few months.
The new venue is expected to open in early 2020.
Dexus’s head of office portfolio, Richard Garing, said, “We acquired Naldham House to enhance the amenity for our customers in the Eagle street precinct and look forward to delivering on that vision with Mantle Group Hospitality.”
Mantle said the group would “create a more open and inviting design unlike any previous layout, while enhancing the exquisite detail of the historical building”.
“Each level will tell its own story and provide an intimate experience for the local business community, local residents and visitors to our city.”
Plans for the venue include incorporating a large tropical outdoor deck, exposing tree surround views, and a kitchen on each level will deliver culinary experiences aimed at reflecting the strength of local producers.
Dexus’s Waterfront Precinct Proposal seeks to transform the Eagle Street Pier and includes building two new towers, opening up riverfront space, and closing Eagle Street between Charlotte Street and Market Street.
