LOGISTICS company, Owens Transport, a division of Mainfreight, has pre-committed to a purpose built facility in the Port of Brisbane’s Port Gate estate.
Colliers International’s director of industrial Matthew Frazer-Ryan negotiated the 10-year term for 1,950 sqm building with the 1.7ha site set to feature a 10,000 sqm storage and distribution yard, designed for container storage and handling areas with 100 tonne container load capacities.
The purpose built facility will provide 450 sqm of office, 1500 sqm of warehouse, awnings of over 600 sqm with dedicated container storage and handling area of 10,000 sqm.
FDC Construction and Fitout have been appointed to build the facility with expected completion scheduled for mid-2015.
Frazer-Ryan said Owens Transport was looking at existing facilities and development sites close to Port of Brisbane.
“We undertook an exhaustive search to find the right property with the Port of Brisbane providing the best development outcome, strategic location and commercial terms suitable to Owens Transport.
“One of the reasons for choosing the Howard Smith Drive site was its proximity to the wharves and direct connectivity to Port of Brisbane motorway. Plus it is also approved for super B-Double vehicle access with a maximum load limit of 109 tonnes,” he concluded.
