QUEENSLAND Forklifts is investing $2.5 million for a new custom warehouse within the Empire Industrial Estate in Yatala on the Gold Coast.
The Stephens Group-developed estate has two lots remaining in its current industrial land release, and realised $36 million in land sales last year.
Queensland Forklifts purchased a 2,900sqm site for $890,000, and will tip in another $1.6 million with Lory Constructions to construct a 1,350sqm warehouse with an additional 300sqm of office space.
The group’s director Laurie Harper said the shift to Empire Industrial Estate is an expansion move, following strong year-on-year growth since the company was established in 2010.
He said the group is already based in Yatala but made the decision to move across to Empire because it has superior access to the motorway.
It plans to be operating out the facility by August.
Director Tony Stephens said stage five, which offers lots averaging around 3,000sqm for small to medium businesses looking to design and construct their own office or warehouse, is almost sold out.
“We are now moving in to stage six, which has larger lots of up to 7,000sqm available, and we have the capacity to amalgamate lots to offer upwards of 70,000sqm – which is the reason we have caught the eye of some larger international groups, which we are currently negotiating with,” he said.
He said there is a growing number of businesses relocating to Empire from within the Yatala region.
“These businesses are already well established within the area and they don’t want to move too far. They are looking to take advantage of the brand new infrastructure and facilities being put in place at Empire, which is purpose-built to cater for all types of industrial uses,” he said.
