NEXTDC Limited has acquired a new data centre site in Western Sydney, with the $124 million purchase the latest move in its long term development strategy.
The 124,000sqm site, referred to as S4, is situated in Horsley Park, 42km west of the Sydney CBD and within close proximity to an electricity substation and telecommunications, utilities and public infrastructure.
The acquisition represents a long-term expansion opportunity for NEXTDC andwill eventually bring data centre services to Hyperscale Cloud Providers in a new Availability Zone in the Sydney market. The market is not currently serviced by the existing S1, S2 and S3 centres, that are currently under development.
“The demand for premium quality data centre assets in digital gateway regions such as Sydney continues to reflect the growth trajectory of technology infrastructure over the next decade,” said Craig Scroggie, CEO and managing director at NEXTDC.
Assuming it receives development approval, the site is expected to become home to a facility that will have a 300MW capacity.
The site will also feature administration offices and collaboration spaces and is expected to generate over 500 new jobs throughout the multi-year development phase.
“NEXTDC looks forward to being able to offer its customers dual availability zone solutions across its existing S1 and S2 Macquarie Park and S3 Gore Hill metropolitan data centres as well as this new S4 hyperscale campus in Western Sydney.”
The land parcels which make up the S4 site will be settled on as they become ready for development between the second half of FY24 and the first of FY25.
