THE Hobart City Council Planning Committee has approved Giameos Constructions’ proposed $11 million commercial development at the former K&D timber yard.
The approval will allow the demolition of the existing building on the site for a new building or business and professional services and vehicle parking at 90 Melville Street and the adjacent road reserve.
The new building will comprise three below-ground levels of 107 car parking spaces and storage and eight above-ground levels of commercial office space.
The 1,689sqm was last sold in mid-2022 for $2.64 million, a downgrade from a previous sale price of $3.55 million in early 2018.
The site has most recently been used as a private carpark and while there were plans approved to build 55 apartments at the site in 2020, this development never moved forward by Giameos Constructions and Developments.
