THE Western Australian government is making room for further seniors accommodation by unlocking 15.6-hectares of land in the Kalgoorlie-Boulder region.
Lands minister John Carey announced the transfer of the $6.6 million worth of land to make way for an expansion of Pringle Village senior accommodation, to meet the growing demand for independent living options from older Western Australians.
“My number one focus is to look at how we can utilise our lands assets to drive positive outcomes for our community, and this is a fantastic example of how our Government is supporting Kalgoorlie and the broader Goldfields region,” said Carey.
The contribution will enable Goldfields Masonic Homes Inc, the operator of Pringle Village, to commence a four stage development to expand the village from 49 units to 250, in addition to delivering new common resident facilities.
“This is a significant parcel of land that will allow Goldfields Masonic Homes to significantly increase their footprint and expand the number of seniors accommodation units available in the Kalgoorlie,” added Carey.
Goldfields Masonic Homes Inc will be granted a management order for the land by the Western Australian government.
“This a fantastic outcome for our community and is the culmination of a lot of hard work and cooperation between our Government and Goldfields Masonic Homes,” said Kyle McGinn, mining and pastoral MLC.
“Providing this land gives Goldfield Masonic Homes the certainty needed to get on with the job of delivering more seniors accommodation in Kalgoorlie, which will be an important element of addressing some of the housing challenges being faced.”
Pringle Village, which first opened its doors in 2019, currently comprises 2.1-hectares of senior-friendly units, as well as community facilities such as BBQs, raised garden beds, a giant chest board and a mini gold green.
“Our Government is committed to delivering better housing outcomes for the people of Kalgoorlie, and the last few months we have made significant investments worth nearly $13 million to release more land for residential and seniors accommodation,” said Ali Kent, Kalgoorlie MLA.
The $6.6 million land contribution comes in addition to the $17.6 million for the development of new residential and industrial land in Kalgoorlie, as outlined in the recent state budget.
“We’re currently progressing works to release a further 60 lots in the Greenview Estate, and along with the 15.6 hectares of land at Pringle Village, will provide a real boost to housing availability in Kalgoorlie,” concluded Kent.
