ROCKPOOL has been given the go ahead on its $44 million Pelican Waters residential aged care community on the southern Sunshine Coast.
The Pelican Waters centre will place an emphasis on ‘aging in place’, with the 6,000sqm site will housing 150 residents across six-storeys, made up of smaller 15-resident communities.
The development will also include ground floor dining, a café, a hair salon, a wellness area as well as theatre, function and consulting rooms and specialty health services.
“In the weeks and months ahead, we will be stepping up our community engagement through our involvement with organisations such as the Golden Beach and Pelican Waters Community Association to ensure the development aligns with people’s needs,” said Melissa Argent, CEO of Rockpool.
“The developers of Pelican Waters are excited to see the next chapter in the master planned estate’s history move forward with the Rockpool residential care facility,” said Hamish Pressland, general manager of development for Pelican Waters.
The development will create more than 100 jobs throughout the construction phase and 200 ongoing jobs upon completion and full occupation.
“The arrival of Rockpool ensures we continue to be a diverse community, offering a broad range of residential accommodation for all stages of people’s lives,” said Pressland.
With the project being built around the idea of ‘aging in place’, the centre will aim to provide care for those who have already lived and worked in the area, removing the need for relocating to access adequate age care.
“It will ensure that members of our community can age in place with residents and families seeking out options not needing to leave the suburb to look for quality care. Pelican Waters can be their ‘forever community’ which is a wonderful thing to have,’’ concluded Pressland.
Works on Pelican Waters are anticipated to be underway by April of 2022 and completed over the following 12 months, with Rockpool currently looking to appoint a builder to deliver the development.
