PROPERTY developer Tipalea Partners has lodged a development application with Kingborough Council for its $45 million Spring Farm Village retail hub project in southern Hobart.
The community should be shopping in the new Coles-anchored Kingston centre before Christmas of 2025. It bought the 3.5-hectare site in May last year for $5 million from a Queensland investor.
Strategically positioned opposite Bunnings on the Channel Highway, the new centre will deliver over 7,500 sqm of retail space – including the 4,250 sqm Coles – to the fast-growing area. Kingston is expecting 7,000 new residents in the next 10 years, one of the highest rates in the capital, and Tipalea Partners said more than 1,200 job opportunities are forecast to be generated by delivery of Spring Farm Village.
The new retail centre has been designed by 12C Architects and is targeting a catchment from Huntingfield through to Margate and Snug.
“Spring Farm Village is set to redefine everyday convenience in Kingston, and we are eager to appoint a builder and get construction underway,” said Scott Spanton, CEO of Tipalea Partners.
“Now that we have lodged our DA, we are hopeful for approval around May and would then aim for construction to start mid to late 2024 with the centre opening before Christmas 2025,” he said.
Joining Coles is Chemist Warehouse, opening its first superstore in the region, and the national retailers will be joined by 14 specialty retailers.
Cutting-edge sustainability features and innovative new technologies at the centre will include full solar array, EV charging stations, weather station, free wi-fi, wireless charging stations, a dedicated smart building app, cloud-based CCTV throughout, car counters, duress intercoms and a building information dashboard.
Spring Farm Village will include over 350 easily-accessible car parks, including dedicated bays for disability parking, mums and bubs, and seniors. Taxis and Uber food delivery bays along with EV charging stations will also be provided.
Stony Rise Village represents Tipalea Partners’ sixth Tasmanian project. It is also awaiting rezoning approval for its 8,000 sqm Stony Rise Village shopping centre in Devonport which will anchored by Woolworths and Chemist Warehouse.
Tipalea Partners opened the strongly-performing Glebe Hill Village in Howrah in 2022.
It has also developed neighbourhood retail centres across Australia in locations such as Mackay in Queensland, Pimpama on the Gold Coast, Muswellbrook in the NSW Hunter Valley, as well as Launceston and Hobart in Tasmania.
