THE Queensland Government has brought in the State Planning Instruments Program.
Minister for Infrastructure and Planning Stirling Hinchliffe said the program provides for an annual review of priorities and progress and assists local government and the development industry by providing advanced notice of the government’s position on planning and development issues.
“Councils are now better placed to ensure their land planning schemes align with State interests thanks to the development of the SPI Program.
“I have written to every Mayor in Queensland and posted them a copy of the 2010-2011 program, which will ensure local governments can effectively account for SPIs in the preparation of their planning schemes,” he added.
“This is another example of how the State Government, through the Sustainable Planning Act 2009, is improving Queensland’s land use planning and development framework to offer a more streamlined, efficient and effective system for all users.
“The SPI program establishes a process for ensuring the State’s interests are appropriately represented in land use planning. The program is supported by processes for State agencies to nominate interests, and for a whole-of-government assessment to determine priorities and timing,” Hinchliffe said.
The forward program covers 13 policies including:
· Healthy waters
· Coastal protection
· Supply of suitable land for industrial development
