FLAGSHIP Property Holdings has been appointed by Plenary Group to develop a new hotel as part of the $300 million expansion of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) and South Wharf Precinct.
Flagship, Plenary and builder Probuild will construct the 331-room 20-storey four-star hotel, above a six-level car park.
Flagship CEO Steve Wise said he is delighted to partner with Plenary Group, Probuild and architects Woods Bagot and NH Architecture on the project.
“This builds on the previous success of the partnership between Flagship and Plenary on the Hilton Melbourne South Wharf hotel, developed as part of the Melbourne Convention Centre and South Wharf DFO retail precinct,” Wise said.
“The MCEC is one of Australasia’s leading conference centres, so we’re excited to be given the opportunity to develop the new hotel in conjunction with our project partners as part of the Centre’s broader expansion.
“We’re now looking forward to progressing plans and commencing on-site works for the new hotel, which is going to play a key role in helping MCEC attract even larger and more diverse events to the city,” he added.
Wise said the hotel is due to be completed, with the rest of the MCEC expansion, in the first half of 2018.
