JEFF Xu’s Golden Age Group has unveiled a new 35-level apartment at Box Hill in Melbourne’s east.
Xu acquired the former Sovereign Square development from AXF in September, took the project back to the drawing board, removed the proposed office component and replaced it with a new retail and restaurant hub to compliment the residential apartments.
The new Sky One development is a 35-level building comprising 443 residential with a three-level retail component.
Xu said the project was moving ahead and changes to the original scheme would make it more functional and suitable to the local market.
“Box Hill is one of Melbourne’s most exciting suburbs and we are excited to be contributing to its future development. We see great potential in this site and our changes will make this a development the community can be proud of,” he said.
Xu said Whitehorse Council had recently shown support for development on the site, hoping a significant project such as Sky One would encourage the state government and local shopping centre owner to work together to renew the Box Hill transport interchange and town centre.
“Sky One aims to reflect the local council’s hopes and aspirations not only for this site, but also for the future of Box Hill and the transformation of this suburb. A development of this size would result in significant economic and social benefits,” Xu said.
Sky One is Golden Age’s most recent foray into Melbourne’s suburbs after focussing initially in the CBD and inner city in recent years.
Golden Age has also purchased four sites in Sydney over the past 12 months, as part of a national expansion.
