VICTORIAN minister for planning Richard Wynne has approved a 62-storey apartment tower in King St Melbourne, the second skyscraper to get the greenlight in a week.
Farinia has received approval for its $130 million 210-metre mixed-use tower at 295 King St, which will comprise 431 units.
The approved tower is significantly below the original proposal submitted in October 2014 for an 83-level 269.45-metre tower comprising 603 units and 124 car spaces to be built on the 1,301 sqm site.
The original proposal would have made the King St development the tallest building in the CBD, ahead of Malaysian developer UEM Sunrise’s Aurora Melbourne, which is 92 levels and 267.15 metres.
It is the second project to get the go ahead in a week after Chinese developer 3L Alliance was granted approval for Queens Place, a $750 million twin 79-storey 246-metre towers at 350 Queen St.
When it is completed, the dual towers will be the second tallest building in the CBD – behind Malaysian developer UEM Sunrise’s Aurora Melbourne, which is 92 levels and 267.15 metres.
