NEWS Digital Media's chief executive Richard Freudenstein has been appointed the chairman of the REA Group, owner of realestate.com.au and realcommercial.com.au.
Freudenstein takes over from John McGrath, who is stepping down as chairman after four years. McGrath will remain a director.
Freudenstein has been chief operating officer of British Sky Broadcasting and has also served as chairman of the Royal Television Society, chairman of Nickelodeon UK and director of the English National Ballet.
While McGrath was chairman, the REA Group was transformed from a business that operated a single residential real estate website in Australia and received just 800,000 unique browsers to one that operates 15 residential and commercial real estate websites in eight countries and receives 6.8 million unique browsers to its sites each month.
In Australia alone, the company serves more than 90% of all real estate agents.
