PROBUILD founder, Phil Mehrten, is stepping down as managing director after 25 years at the helm.
Mehrten will be taking on a non-executive director role.
Probuild chairman Ted Yencken also announced that Simon Gray, who is currently the managing director of Contexx, part of the Probuild group of companies, has been appointed as Mehrten’s successor.
“For over a quarter of a century with inspiration and vision, Phil has transformed Probuild from a small Melbourne-based builder into a leader within the Australian construction industry with annual revenue in excess of $1 billion.
“Probuild is now well placed to continue its expansion in the building construction and civil engineering sectors, and strengthen its position within the Tier 1 leadership group. We are indeed fortunate to have Simon Gray ready to step straight into the leadership role, having already performed this role successfully at state and national levels for major construction firms,” Yencken said.
“Phil will work closely with Simon over the coming months ensuring the leadership transition is seamless. He will then take on the non-executive Director role from November 1, 2012 for at least another three years,” he added.
Probuild’s board will be expanded to six directors, with the appointments of Simon Gray as managing director and the current chairman of Contexx Noel Henderson, as a non-executive Director. Simon and Noel will also become shareholders of the Probuild Group.
