The ASX Property index has started the week with a 0.9% gain closing at 2081.8 points.
The All Ordinaries also closed 0.4% higher at 4938.6 points.
Yesterday, all eyes were on Leighton Holdings, Australia’s largest construction company. Leighton was the only big property company delivering its full year profit.
And deliver it did, Leighton posted a 28% increase in net profit after tax to $276 million for the year ending June 30, 2006.
Leighton’s total operating revenue, including joint ventures, was up 32% to $10.0 billion compared to $7.7 billion last year, whilst revenue from joint ventures increased by 13% to $1.5 billion.
Investors clearly welcomed the result with Leighton shares opening at $17.49 and reaching a high of $18.40, before closing at $17.95, 54 cents higher.
The other winners in the list yesterday included RUN Corp, Tourism and Leisure Trust and Trafalgar Corporate.
The losers yesterday were Village Life, WRF Securities and Cromwell Corporation.
